Once items are created in Lightspeed Restaurant, they can’t be deleted but can be disabled from the Back Office. When disabling an item, its status changes from active to inactive. The item's information will be hidden but not permanently deleted from the Back Office. If needed, disabled items can be reactivated and displayed again on the Items page. Disabling items is helpful in various cases, such as when an item is only offered seasonally, or you are waiting for supplies from a vendor.
Lightspeed Restaurant accounts created after March 2023 will have Items page 2.0 enabled by default. Existing accounts will continue to use the Legacy Items page but will be migrated to the newer version at a later date.
To figure out which version of the Items page you're using, refer to the screenshots contained within this article and see if they match what's in your Back Office.

Seasonal items can be easily reactivated when needed, while discontinued items can be kept for reference purposes without cluttering your active menu.

Disabling items
To disable an item and make it unavailable for sale on Lightspeed Restaurant, you will need to Archive it. To do this:
- Log in to the Back Office with your Lightspeed credentials.
- From the main navigation menu, select Menu management > Items.
- (Optional) Apply filters to see only Active items by clicking Filters > Status > select Active and click Apply.
- On the right side of the item's row, click the ellipsis .
- From the drop-down menu, select Archive.
- In the window that pops up, click Archive to finish. Note: If the item is attached to a menu, group, or combo, archiving it will also remove it from these groupings across all business locations.
Enabling items
Once an item has been archived, it can be reactivated and made available for sale again.
- Log in to the Back Office with your Lightspeed credentials.
- From the main navigation menu, select Menu management > Items.
- (Optional) Apply filters to see only Archived items by clicking Filters > Status > select Archived, and click Apply.
- On the right side of the item's row, click the ellipsis .
- From the drop-down menu, select Activate.

Checking the item status
You can only disable items if they are not linked to a menu screen. Check the status of an item to see whether an item is linked to a menu.
- Log in to the Back Office with your Lightspeed credentials.
- From the navigation menu, select Menu management > Items.
- Click the status of an item in the Status column.
- Click the linked menu or screen to be forwarded to the respective menu or screen. See Editing or deleting menus for details about deleting item buttons from menus.
Disabling items
After checking the item status and unlinking an item, disable the item from the Back Office.
- Log in to the Back Office with your Lightspeed credentials.
- From the main navigation menu, select Menu management > Items.
- On the right side of the corresponding item, click Disable.
Reenabling items
Reactivate disabled items to display them again on the items page.
- Log in to the Back Office with your Lightspeed credentials.
- From the main navigation menu, select Menu management > Items.
- Select Inactive from the drop-down menu above the Status column.
- Click the Enable button next to the item to reactivate. The item will be displayed again on the Items page of the Back Office.
