Hi. How can we help?

iPad and iPhone/Pod Quick Start

When you turn on your new iPad for the first time, the Apple setup wizard will assist you in setting up your languages and preferences.

Once the setup wizard has been completed, you can begin to configure your device for use with Lightspeed Restaurant.

Connecting to a Wi-Fi network

After completing this initial setup, please ensure you are connected to a secure Wi-Fi network dedicated for use with Lightspeed Restaurant. If not, follow the steps below for updating your network settings.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPad.
  2. Tap Wi-Fi on the navigation bar.
  3. Select the correct Wi-Fi network from the list of available networks.
  4. Enter the Wi-Fi password and confirm with Join

To prevent connection issues, it is recommended that you only have one Wi-Fi network saved on your iPad. If you have multiple networks saved on your device, you can follow the steps in this Apple support article to forget any additional networks.

Configuring your network settings

Configuring your network settings on your device allows you to prevent future network issues and secure the connection with your other devices, such as your printer and payment terminal.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPad
  2. Tap Wi-Fi.
  3. Tap the icon next to your connected network to configure your network settings. For optimal performance, we recommend the following settings:
    Setting name Setting option
    Auto-join Enabled
    Low Data Mode Disabled
    Private Wi-Fi Address Disabled
    Limit IP Tracking Disabled
  4. Tap Configure DNS.
  5. Select Manual.
  6. If there are any DNS server IP addresses listed already, remove them from this window.
  7. Click + to add the following Google IPv4 addresses:
  8. Navigate back to Settings > Wi-Fi to save your changes.

Configuring additional settings on your iPad

Disabling FaceTime and iMessage

We recommend disabling messages and Facetime on your iPad to prevent notifications from interrupting your sales flow.

To disable iMessage:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPad.
  2. Tap Messages.
  3. Disable iMessage.

To disable FaceTime:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPad.
  2. Tap FaceTime.
  3. Disable FaceTime.

Enabling Guided Access for active devices

We recommend enabling Guided Access on your active device, as exiting the Lightspeed Restaurant app, even briefly, will disable all passive devices connected to the active device. Guided Access limits your device to a single app and lets you control which features are available during a Guided Access session. For more information on Guided Access, visit the Apple support page here.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPad.
  2. Tap Accessibility.
  3. Navigate to General > Guided Access
  4. Enable Guided Access.
  5. Tap Passcode Settings, then tap Set Guided Access Passcode.
  6. Follow the prompts to create and save your guided access passcode.

Once enabled, you can begin a Guided Access session the next time you open Lightspeed Restaurant.  To learn how to start and end a Guided Access session, visit Apple support.

Downloading the Lightspeed POS application

Lightspeed Restaurant POS runs on an app downloadable from the Apple AppStore.

Downloading the Lightspeed POS app requires an Apple ID. Don’t have an Apple ID? Visit Apple Support to learn how to set one up.

  1. Open the App Store on your device.
  2. Tap Search in the lower right corner.
  3. Type Lightspeed Restaurant POS (K) in the search bar then tap search.
  4. Tap GET next to the Lightspeed app.

Linking Lightspeed POS application to Back Office.

It is necessary to link the Lightspeed Restaurant POS application with the Back Office as the app will not work without this connection. You will find the steps to do the linking in our Logging into the POS app article.

Once your settings are configured in your Lightspeed Back Office, you will be enabled to book orders. For further information about setting devices in the Back Office or how to process orders, please refer to these articles:
