Editing a customer profile

It may happen that you need to update an existing customer's contact information. Customer profiles can be edited from the POS, or you can manage customers in the Back Office.

The steps for creating a customer from the POS will vary depending on which version of the POS you have enabled on your device.

  • Editing customers with the new navigation

    The new navigation can be enabled in your Back Office and is already enabled for customers who signed up for Lightspeed after May 2026. This set of instructions covers how to edit customers with the new navigation.

    1. Select the Assign customer button on an open order or navigate to the Customers tab in Restaurant POS.

    2. From the Customer screen, use the Search bar to type an identifier from the customer profile (such as their phone number, email or name). A list of results will auto-populate as you type.
    3. Select the desired customer from this list by tapping View next to the customer’s name.
    4. Tap Edit at the top right of the Customer window and adjust the desired customer details. 
    5. Edit the customer's contact information on the pop-up window. You may add or change the customer’s name, email, phone, tax identifier (in regions where this is applicable), address, and any other useful information as a custom note. 
    6. When you’ve finished editing your customer details, tap Select to save. If you are editing a customer profile from the Register screen, the customer profile will be auto-added to the order at this time.

    Creating or editing a customer profile will automatically add the new customer to the open order.

  • Creating a customer with the legacy navigation

    The legacy navigation for the Lightspeed Restaurant POS is the default navigation for customers who signed up for Lightspeed Restaurant before May 2026. This set of instructions covers how to edit customer profiles with the legacy navigation.

    1. Select the Assign customer button above the order items in receipt view or by tapping the Customerstab at the bottom of the screen.

    3. In the Search bar, type an identifier from the customer profile (such as their phone number, email or name). A list of results will auto-populate as you type.
    4. Tap View to the right of their desired customer’s contact info. A pop-up window for the customer’s information will open.

    6. Tap Edit at the top right of the Customer window and adjust the desired customer details. You'll be able to then adjust or add customer information such as their phone number, email or address.

    8. When you are done editing customer details, tap Select.

    Editing and saving a customer's profile on Lightspeed Restaurant will also auto-add the customer to an open order on the POS.
