Production instructions are preparation notes that can be manually added or automatically tied to an item. When tied to an item, the POS will prompt the server to include the relevant preparation info. Create, edit, and import/export production instructions from the Back Office.
Sub-items are order items that are attached to a main item, and closely related to production instructions. For more information on sub-items, visit our Creating and editing items article.
Configuring production instructions
From the Menu management > Production instructions page, you can add, edit, delete, import, or export production instructions. Production instructions can be used in two ways: by adding instruction buttons to menus, or by assigning instructions directly to an item.
Adding instructions as buttons on the menu will allow you to manually apply instructions at the POS. For example, a customer could have an allergy to eggs and will need the server to add an allergen production note.
Assigning instructions directly to items in the Back Office will automatically trigger and prompt the server to add the instructions. For instance, when a steak order is made, the POS will ask what sub-items to add or preparation instructions to use.
