Hi. How can we help?

Connecting an iPad via Ethernet adapter

You can connect your iPad to the internet using an Ethernet cable and adapter. This setup is an option when your Wi-Fi signal is weak or unavailable, and you have access to a router. We recommend using the Belkin or Apple Ethernet adapter. You will need additional hardware, depending on the adapter you choose.

These instructions are for iPad models with lightning charging ports.

Connecting an Apple Ethernet adapter to an iPad

Hardware requirements

  • Apple USB Ethernet adapter
  • Apple Lightning to USB Camera Adapter
  • Ethernet cable
  • Lightning charging cable

The Apple Lightning to USB Camera Adapter is a passive adapter, which means it doesn’t provide energy to connected devices, so you need the lightning charging cable to power your iPad.

  1. On your iPad, go to the Settings app and disable Wi-Fi.
  2. Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into a numbered port on your router and the other end into the Ethernet port on the Apple USB Ethernet adapter.
  3. Plug the Apple USB Ethernet adapter into the USB port of the Apple Lightning to USB Camera Adapter.
  4. To charge your iPad, plug one end of the Lightning charging cable into the Lightning port of the Apple Lightning to USB Camera Adapter and the other end into an electrical power supply, such as a wall outlet.
  5. If your iPad does not automatically connect to the internet, navigate to the Settings app, tap the Ethernet tab, and tap Apple USB Ethernet Adapter to connect.
