Hi. How can we help?

Using Apple automations with the Lightspeed Restaurant app

Use Apple's built-in settings to keep the Lightspeed Restaurant POS app open, or to reopen the app on your iPad within a set amount of time. Keeping the app open is essential for syncing data between devices, from payment terminals, and from other integrations and online orders.

Guided Access restricts your device to a specific app, allowing you to lock your iPad to use only the Lightspeed Restaurant app. With the Shortcuts app, you can set a timeframe, such as 20 seconds, to reopen Lightspeed Restaurant if it's been closed.

Setting up Guided Access

Guided Access limits your device to a single app and allows you to control what features can be used in that app. Use Guided Access settings to help prevent unauthorized access to other parts of your device or to settings within the Lightspeed Restaurant app. For more details on Guided Access, visit the Apple support article.

  1. On your device, navigate to Settings > Accessibility.
  2. Toggle on Guided Access.

The Guided Access option toggled on

  3. Tap Passcode Settings, then Set Guided Access Passcode.
  4. Enter a passcode.
  5. Open the Lightspeed Restaurant (K-Series) app.
  6. Starting a Guided Access session depends on what type of device you have. For older devices, triple-click the Home button. For newer devices, triple-click the side button.
  7. (Optional) Triple-click the Home button or side button again and enter your passcode to adjust the Guided Access settings, like disabling access to certain parts of the app or setting a time limit.
  8. When finished with your Guided Access session, triple-click either the Home button or the side button and tap End.

Setting up Apple Shortcuts

Use Apple Shortcuts to set up an automatic way to reopen the Lightspeed Restaurant POS app within a specified time frame. We recommend the Shortcuts automation for restaurants that take online orders, to ensure that the Lightspeed Restaurant app remains open even when staff need to use other apps on the device.

  1. On your device, open the Shortcuts app. If you don't have this app already installed, you can download it from the App Store.
  2. Tap Automation.

When the Lightspeed Restaurant app is closed, it will now automatically reopen after the chosen time period. To delete the automation, navigate to Shortcuts > Automation and swipe left on the automation you wish to delete, then tap Delete.
