We're introducing an enhanced navigation experience for the Lightspeed Restaurant POS app, designed to be smoother, more intuitive, and give you more screen space for managing orders. This guide details the key changes, how to enable the new interface via our Beta program, and what to expect from the updated workflows.
Enabling the POS navigation enhancements
The enhanced navigation is available as a Beta feature. Follow these steps to enable it in the Back Office and sync the changes to your POS devices.
We recommend updating the Restaurant POS app on all POS devices for the most current version of the navigation enhancements.
- Log in to the Back Office with your Lightspeed Restaurant credentials.
- From the navigation menu, select Business > Beta.
-
Enable the setting for Enhanced navigation experience.
Don't see this setting? Contact us if you'd like to participate in our Beta program.
-
Tap I accept to agree to the terms of Lightspeed's Beta Testing Agreement.
With the new experience now enabled in the Back Office, you'll have to reload your POS devices to sync the updated settings.
- From the navigation menu, select POS > Devices.
- Check the box next to each POS device, then click Reload devices.
Changes in the Restaurant POS app
Once enabled, the enhanced navigation introduces several key changes to the POS app's interface and workflow. This section breaks down the new navigation bar, ordering experience, and More menu.
Navigation bar
We've redesigned our navigation bar for a smoother, more intuitive user experience tailored to the type of device you're using.
On iPad, we moved the navigation bar to the top of your screen and reduced its size. We also removed or modified some items to create more room on screen for using the app. From the iPad navigation bar, you can access the:
- Sidebar toggle for the More menu
- Floor plan screen
- Order management screen
- Customers screen
- Receipts screen
On iPhone, we added a dedicated navigation bar to the bottom of the app with links to your floor plan screen, order management screen, and settings. This allows servers to move between screens with one hand more easily than ever.
Ordering
The Register screen now opens when you start a new order, edit an existing order, or immediately after login if it has been set as the landing screen in your POS configurations.
When viewing the Register screen, the navigation bar disappears to create more room for managing the order. To close the Register screen and return to the navigation bar, tap Close in the upper-left corner.
There are also new ways to start an order from the Floor plan and Order management screens. Tap + New order (iPad) or + (iPhone) in the upper-right corner of either screen to open the Register screen and begin entering an order.
More menu
The Settings button on the navigation bar has been replaced by the more discreet More menu. All of the same settings are there; you just reach them differently. To access this menu, tap the sidebar toggle button (iPad) or More (iPhone) on the navigation bar.
Some sections of the More menu are not currently available and will be added over time.
