Hi. How can we help?

Adding allergens to orders

Add allergens to an order to quickly apply common allergens and communicate dietary needs more consistently during service.

Allergens can be assigned to an entire order, individual items on the order, or a seat. You can select one or more allergens that you've pre-created from the Back Office or enter a custom allergen. All allergens appear on the KDS and printed order dockets but not on customer receipts.

Add an allergen to an order

Apply order-level allergens for takeout, solo diners, or shared plates where every dish on the ticket must avoid an ingredient to prevent cross-contamination.

  1. From the Register screen, create a new order.
  2. In the order summary section, tap Add allergens.

Order summary with the "Add allergens" button highlighted.

  3. In the Manage allergens pop-up, do either of the following:
    • Select one or more pre-created allergens.
    • Tap Create allergen to add a custom allergen.
  4. Tap Save.
The "Manage allergens" pop-up with a custom allergen ("Lactose") and pre-created allergen ("Peanuts") selected.

The number of allergens appears in the order summary to show how many allergens are assigned to the order.

Add an allergen to an item

Apply item-level allergens when a restriction affects only a single dish, isolating custom prep without altering or slowing down the rest of the table's order.

To use item-level allergens, all POS devices at your restaurant must be updated to Lightspeed Restaurant version 26.40 or later.

  1. From the Register screen, create a new order and add an item.
  2. In the order summary section, tap the three dots icon (More) to the right of an item.

  3. Select Add next to Allergens.

If you don't see this option, you may need to update some or all of your POS devices to the latest version of the Lightspeed Restaurant app.

  4. In the Manage allergens pop-up, do either of the following:
    • Select one or more pre-created allergens.
    • Tap Create allergens to add a custom allergen.
  5. Tap Save.

The "Manage allergens" pop-up with a custom allergen ("Lactose") and pre-created allergen ("Peanuts") selected.

The allergens appear under the item in the order summary and are sent to the KDS and printed order dockets when you send the order. You can add, edit, or remove an item's allergens until you send the order.
