Installing printer hardware involves plugging it into power, loading paper, and connecting it to your iPad or network. After that, add the printer to your Back Office and configure its print settings to start using it with Lightspeed Restaurant.
For step-by-step help, visit our article for your printer's model or our general printer setup guide.
-
Thermal printers use thermal receipt paper, and impact printers use regular paper rolls. The size of paper you need will depend on what your printer model supports.
-
A DHCP reservation or static IP address keeps your printer's IP address constant and unique on your network. If you add your printer to Lightspeed Restaurant by its IP address, this helps ensure a stable connection and eliminates the need for reconfiguration if the IP changes.
Configuring print settings
Learn how to control receipt and order ticket printing behavior by setting up printing profiles, production centers, and receipt templates.
-
Printing profiles control which printer(s) are used for a certain type of receipt or order ticket. For example, you can create a profile called Bar receipts and assign it to POS devices at the bar to print their receipts to nearby printers.
Production centers determine where order tickets print for items in specific accounting groups. For example, you could create a Prep station production center and assign it to accounting groups containing items that need to print to that area.
-
To use a printer with a particular POS device, link its printing profile directly to that device.
You can also assign printing profiles to floor plans and POS configurations, depending on your desired printing behavior. Learn more in our How printing works article.
