Installing printer hardware involves plugging it into power, loading paper, and connecting it to your iPad or network. After that, add the printer to your Back Office and configure its print settings to start using it with Lightspeed Restaurant.
For step-by-step help, visit our article for your printer's model or our general printer setup guide.
- Thermal printers use thermal receipt paper, and impact printers use regular paper rolls. The size of paper you need will depend on what your printer model supports.
- A DHCP reservation or static IP address keeps your printer's IP address constant and unique on your network. If you add your printer to Lightspeed Restaurant by its IP address, this helps ensure a stable connection and eliminates the need for reconfiguration if the IP changes.
Configuring print settings
Learn how to control receipt and order ticket printing behavior by setting up printing profiles, production centers, and receipt templates.
-
Printing profiles control which printer(s) are used for a certain type of receipt or order ticket. For example, you can create a profile called Bar receipts and assign it to POS devices at the bar to print their receipts to nearby printers.
Production centers determine where order tickets print for items in specific accounting groups. For example, you could create a Prep station production center and assign it to accounting groups containing items that need to print to that area.
-
To use a printer with a particular POS device, link its printing profile directly to that device.
You can also assign printing profiles to floor plans and POS configurations, depending on your desired printing behavior. Learn more in our How printing works article.
- Receipt and ticket details: Adjust what information is shown on receipts and order tickets in your POS configurations. For example, you can hide the pre-tax total on receipts or add dividers between items on tickets.
- Receipt templates: Customizable receipt templates allow you to edit more receipt details like the header, footer, and logo.
- Business name and address: To update the business name and address on receipts (and your account), visit your business settings.

Receipts can be manually printed from the Payments screen while accepting payment or from the Receipts screen after an order has been paid.
Order tickets print automatically when sending order items or processing payment for an order. Only items that are in an accounting group with a production center will print order tickets. You can also reprint order tickets after you fire items in Table Mode or close an order in Direct Mode. When you reprint, you can select which production center to print to.
- Draft receipts can be manually printed by editing an order, going to the Actions menu, and tapping Print receipt.
- For receipts to print automatically, you need to enable the relevant receipt settings for your POS configurations.
