Within this article is a list of recommended hardware to use with Lightspeed Restaurant POS that lets you optimize your workflows and get the most out of Lightspeed's features. This hardware includes tested and supported payment terminals, barcode scanners, cash drawers, network accessories, as well as receipt and kitchen printers. If you would like to set up this hardware yourself, you can follow along with step-by-step instructions by clicking on the relevant links listed beside the piece of hardware you are trying to set up.
- Lightspeed Restaurant (K Series) Back Office is designed, built, and tested to function on multiple web browsers and operating systems. For best results, we recommend using the latest versions of Google Chrome, Safari, or Mozilla Firefox.
- The Lightspeed Restaurant (K Series) POS app requires a supported Apple device running iPadOS or iOS 17 or higher.
Lightspeed only provides support for the hardware listed in this article. If your hardware isn't included in our list of supported hardware, please contact the hardware manufacturer for setup and configuration instructions.
Purchasing hardware
You can purchase supported hardware directly from Lightspeed. Our online stores are customized for each region and only stock items that have been tested and verified by Lightspeed. If you choose to buy your hardware elsewhere, we encourage you to purchase the supported models listed in this article.

Apple devices
Lightspeed Restaurant uses Apple iPads and iPhones for managing customer orders. To install the latest version of the Restaurant POS app, your device must be running iPadOS or iOS 17 or higher. For help updating your OS, see Apple Support.
If an existing Lightspeed Restaurant device can't update to iPadOS or iOS 17, we recommend upgrading to a newer iPad or iPhone. Doing so will ensure you receive our latest app updates, including new features and bug fixes.
iPads
The following iPads support the minimum requirement of iPadOS 17:
- iPad: 10th generation, 9th generation, 8th generation, 7th generation, and 6th generation
- iPad mini: 6th generation and 5th generation
- iPad Air: M2 models, 5th generation, 4th generation, and 3rd generation

Label printers
The Zebra ZD410 is not interchangeable with the Epson TM-L90. The ZD410 prints scannable labels for use with a barcode scanner and is best used for labelling retail or take-home items (such as cakes in tins, bottled sauces, or pre-packaged meals). The TM-L90 prints sticky labels used to identify ordered items and cannot print barcodes or QR codes.

Kitchen display system
The Lightspeed Kitchen Display System (KDS) shows orders on a separate iPad, replacing kitchen printers and saving paper. It helps track preparation time and lets staff interact with the system to update item statuses.

Order display screen
The Lightspeed Order Display Screen (ODS) shows customers their order status and updates automatically as orders are managed in the Restaurant app or KDS. An Apple TV (4th gen or newer) and a TV or monitor connected via HDMI are required to set up the ODS.

As such, we try to support this hardware as much as possible, but our documentation or support staff may be limited when working with these devices. Label printers
The Epson TM-L90 is not interchangeable with the Zebra ZD410. The TM-L90 is exclusively used for printing production dockets, which are adhesive slips that can be attached to ordered items for identification purposes. It cannot print scannable labels with QR codes or barcodes.
