Hi. How can we help?

Customer-Facing Display setup

The K-Series Customer-Facing Display (CFD) displays order details on a separate iPad integrated with your Lightspeed Restaurant point-of-sale system. As orders are processed, the CFD automatically displays the items sold and any discounts applied to the purchase. Upon payment, a QR code appears on the screen, which customers can scan to obtain their digital receipt.

When Take Away mode is activated, the order number is displayed on the top right corner of the screen. However, the customer's name remains confidential and will not be shown.

The Customer-Facing Display is a paid add-on for existing Lightspeed Restaurant subscriptions. Contact your Sales Account Manager or email sales@lightspeedhq.com to ask about purchasing a CFD.

Creating a CFD connection code

To connect your customer-facing display, you will first need to create a connection code.

  1. Log in to the Back Office with your admin credentials.
  2. From the navigation menu, go to Configuration > Devices > Connection codes.
  3. Select Click here to create a new connection code.
  4. Enter a Code description. This is a name that reflects the device and location it will be used (for example, Kitchen iPad).
  5. In the Device type section, select Customer display from the drop-down menu.
  6. Set the Configuration to use to the POS configuration of the POS device(s) the CFD will connect to.
  7. (Optional) Set a code expiration date to any number of months or days.
  8. (Optional) Select the checkbox to set this code for single use. If selected, this code can only be used once before disappearing.

Setting up a CFD

Download and activate the Lightspeed Restaurant app on a spare iPad and then use the customer display connection code to connect a customer display to your account. These steps must be performed on a dedicated iPad, not an existing one used for ordering.

  1. Log in to the Back Office with your Lightspeed Restaurant account credentials.
  2. From the navigation menu, go to Configuration > Devices > Connection codes.
  3. Take note of the alphanumeric connection code with Device type set to Customer display.

  4. Connect the customer-facing display device to the same Wi-Fi network as the other POS devices.
  5. Download the Lightspeed Restaurant POS (K) app on the customer display iPad. For detailed help, see Apple support.
  6. Open the Lightspeed Restaurant app on the customer display iPad, and tap Connect.
  7. Enter the connection code from step 3, then tap Connect.

Alternatively, you can scan the QR code by tapping the QR code icon on the spare iPad and using the iPad's camera to scan the code. Cover other QR codes on the page to avoid scanning them instead. k-series-pos-enter-connection-code.png

  8. Tap OK to allow the CFD to connect to POS devices on your local network.
  9. (Optional) Repeat steps 4–8 to connect additional CFDs.
  10.  Complete the steps in Connecting your CFD to continue the setup process.

If the setup was successful, your CFD should be listed among your devices in Configuration > Devices > Devices with the Device type set to "Customer Display."

With your customer-facing display set up, you must set your POS iPad to use the new device as a CFD.

  1. Log in to the Back Office with your Lightspeed Restaurant account credentials.
  2. From the navigation menu, go to Configuration > Devices > Devices.
  3. Identify which POS device you want to connect to the CFD and click its name.

  5. Scroll down and click Update to save your changes.
  6. Reload your POS device for the changes to take effect.

Configuring optional CFD settings

After connecting your customer display, you can change the amount of time the payment confirmation screen stays active or add a photo screensaver.

Extending the display time

Customize the length of time that the payment confirmation screen stays on the CFD to ensure that customers have enough time to scan the QR code and retrieve their digital receipt.

  1. Log in to the Back Office with your Lightspeed Restaurant account credentials.
  2. From the navigation menu, go to Configuration > Configurations.
  3. Click the name of the configuration tied to your CFD.
  4. Select the Payments tab.
  5. In Payment options, change the Select duration of amount paid notification using the available drop-down.
  6. Click Save to finish, then reload your POS device for changes to take effect.

Using photos from your camera roll as a screensaver

You can set the CFD to play a slideshow of pictures from your device's camera roll when the device is idle.

Note: This requires the Lightspeed Restaurant app to have access to your device's photos within the iPad settings.

  1. Log in to the Back Office with your Lightspeed Restaurant account credentials.
  2. From the navigation menu, go to Configuration > Configurations.
  3. Click the name of the configuration tied to your CFD.
  4. In the General Settings tab, scroll down to Screen Savers section and enable Show photos from the POS device as a screensaver.
  5. Click Save to finish, then reload your POS device for your changes to take effect.

Troubleshooting

You may run into an issue where a flashing white square replaces the uploaded images. Follow the steps below to troubleshoot this issue:

  1. Log in to the Back Office with your Lightspeed Restaurant account credentials.
  2. From the navigation menu, go to Configurations > Devices > Customer Display > Disable.
  3. Uninstall the Customer-Facing Display app and reinstall a fresh copy.
  4. Connect the app to your POS device using your existing connection code.

The Customer-Facing Display app should remember previous settings, unless you have also factory reset your device or are installing on a new device.

  5. Tap Allow access to all photos when prompted.
  6. On your POS device, go to Settings > General > Restaurant > Enable Slideshow.
  7. Reload your POS device.
  8. If you still see the flashing white square, tap the word Screensaver followed by a number at the top left of the square. Your slides should then load.
