Item groups are sets of similar items from which a customer might choose one or more options. Item groups make creating groups for combos simple to handle. For instance, an item group called Side Dish might consist of fries, onion rings, and salad. A combo might include the group Side Dish where the customer then chooses an item from among those options.
Creating an item group
- Click Menu Management > Items from the menu sidebar.
- On the Items page, click Create.
- From the drop-down menu, select Item group.

The first page contains the majority of the key settings that you'll need to add before you can use this new item group.
Group name: Set the name of the item group.
Add custom SKU: Use this to specify an SKU for the item group. Click this button and enter the SKU in the text box.
Choice price: Indicate whether the group's chosen items will keep their default prices or be set to a specific price for the group.
Selection rules: Set the minimum and maximum number of items customers can select from the group as well as setting selection rules to be optional. Check the No maximum box to avoid requiring a maximum number of selections.
Item choices: Click Add to add items to the group. These will be the options available in the POS when choosing from the item group. The pop-up allows you to add items, create new items, and search for specific items by using the filter text box.
POS Settings
On this page, you can configure the settings of the item group on the POS.
Button name and color: Set the name of the button on the POS as well as its colors.
Coursing options: Assign groups to specific courses to manage course firing and meal pace.
Group options: Apply the combo auto-detection feature on this group. This will notify servers when the group is selected and suggest a potential combo to offer.
Appearance
This page allows you to configure the appearance of the item group both on the POS and Order Anywhere.
Group description: This section allows you to give the item group a name and description in each supported language. The description text box allows for several formatting options via the toolbar.
Group image: You can add a picture to accompany the item group whenever it is displayed.
- Use an image of at least 140 pixels by 140 pixels, up to 10MB in file size
- Use either a JPG or PNG file
Food allergies: You can add notes to alert customers of any potential food allergies the item group may contain.
Alcohol info: You can add whether or not the group contains alcohol and, if so, what percentage.

Finally, there is a section which displays all of the above settings on a single page.
Editing an item group
You can make changes to the item group by editing it via the items table. Click the name of the item group you wish to edit. Or you can select the three dots (...) on the far right of the item group and select Edit.
From there you can make any changes to the settings listed above.
