Optimize your POS device to ensure a quick, smooth experience with the Lightspeed Restaurant app. By using the proper equipment and keeping your device clean and updated, you'll be able to serve your customers without interruption.
Before optimizing your device, make sure that you've set it up and installed the Lightspeed Restaurant app.
Use supported hardware
Using official and supported hardware will help extend your device's lifespan and ensure that your device is compatible with the Lightspeed Restaurant app. Charge your device with official cables instead of third-party cables, and use our list of supported hardware to find compatible printers, cash drawers, and payment terminals.
Keep your device and surrounding area clean
A dirty device will become slow and unresponsive. We recommend keeping your device in an area away from the kitchen to avoid any spills, and making sure that both the device and the area it's in are regularly cleaned. Use manufacturer-approved cloths and solutions to avoid damage to your device.
Use the device only for your restaurant
The device you use with Lightspeed Restaurant should be a business device with its own business-specific ID. This will help keep your personal data secure and ensure that you can always access the device.
Avoid using your device for personal things or unneeded software, such as streaming music or unrelated apps. Consider using Guided Access to limit your device to only the Lightspeed Restaurant app, or Apple Shortcuts to automatically reopen the app if it's been closed.
Disable auto-lock
When a device auto-locks, it can temporarily disconnect Lightspeed Restaurant and cause problems with syncing. Auto-lock can be disabled in the device's settings.
- Navigate to Settings.
- Tap Display & Brightness.
- Tap Auto-Lock.
- Tap Never.
Enable automatic software updates
Allowing both Lightspeed Restaurant and your device to update automatically ensures you aren't using an outdated version that might cause problems.
To enable automatic updates on your device:
- Navigate to Settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap Software Update.
- Tap Automatic Updates.
-
Toggle on all options.
- (Optional) If an update is pending, tap Update Now on the Software Update page.
Lightspeed Restaurant should update automatically, but you can also update it manually if you don't want to wait for the automatic update.
- Open the App Store.
- Tap your account icon in the top-right corner.
- Tap Apps and search for the Lightspeed Restaurant app.
- Tap Update if the option is available. If the app says Open beside it, you're using the current version.
Enable location services
Location services will keep your time zone accurate and can be used to track your device if needed.
To enable location services:
- Navigate to Settings.
- Tap Privacy & Security.
-
Toggle on Location Services.
- (Optional) Update an incorrect time zone by navigating to Settings > General > Date & Time. Toggle on Set Automatically.
Forget old Wi-Fi networks
If your POS devices have previously connected to a different network, they may try to automatically connect to old networks again, disrupting your connection. Forget all old Wi-Fi networks to ensure a stable connection to the correct network.
- Navigate to Settings.
- Tap Wi-Fi.
- Tap the blue i beside the old network name.
- Tap Forget This Network.
- Confirm in the pop-up window by tapping Forget.
- Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each old network.
