After setting up gift cards, learn how to use them in the Restaurant POS app. Assign gift cards to customers to link them to customer profiles, check gift card balances to see the remaining value, use gift cards to pay for orders, and refill gift cards with low balances if needed.

Assigning a gift card to a customer via Back Office
We currently support two Back Offices: the Back Office 2.0 (sidebar navigation) and the Console Back Office (top-level navigation).
This section applies to both Back Offices. When one Back Office differs from the other, the Console Back Office wording will be displayed in parentheses next to the Back Office 2.0 wording.
To use the Back Office 2.0, click here and log in with your current Back Office credentials.
- Log in to the Back Office with your Lightspeed Restaurant account credentials.
- From the navigation bar, go to Customers (Consumers) > Loyalty cards > Card batches.
- Select the GIFT tab.
- Select the magnifying glass next to the card batch you will use a card from.
- Scroll to a nonassigned card.
- Click the envelope button in the specific VIP card row.
- Enter customer's email address.
- Click the checkmark button to assign.
- Your customer will receive an email with the corresponding QR code automatically.
Assigning a gift card to a customer via POS
- On the order screen in the Lightspeed Restaurant app, tap the scanner icon in the upper-right corner.
- Align the QR code on a new gift card with the rear-facing camera on the POS device so it appears in the blue box on the screen.
- Wait for the gift card balance information to appear on the screen.
- Tap the Link account button.
- Click the Assign customer tag above the ordering area.
- Add a new customer or select an existing one - this will automatically link the customer to the scanned card.
Checking the balance on the gift card
IMPORTANT: Do not have unpaid items on the order screen when checking a gift card balance. Having items on the order screen will bill the order to the gift card.
- On the order screen in the Lightspeed Restaurant app, tap the scanner icon in the upper-right corner.
- Align the QR code on the gift card with the rear-facing camera on the POS device so it appears in the blue box on the screen.
- Wait for the gift card balance information to appear on the screen.
Paying with gift cards
- In the Lightspeed Restaurant app, start a new order or select an existing order with unpaid items.
- On the order screen, tap the scanner icon in the upper-right corner.
- Align the QR code on the gift card with the rear-facing camera on the POS device so it appears in the blue box on the screen.
- Wait for confirmation that the order has been paid.
Refilling gift card balances
IMPORTANT: Do not have unpaid items on the order screen when refilling a gift card. Having items on the order screen will bill the order to the gift card.
- On the order screen in the Lightspeed Restaurant app, tap the scanner icon in the upper-right corner.
- Align the QR code on the gift card with the rear-facing camera on the POS device so it appears in the blue box on the screen.
- Wait for the gift card balance information to appear on the screen.
- Tap Refill.
- Enter the amount to add to the card.
- Tap Next step to continue.
- Select the payment method being used to pay for the refill.
- Tap Transfer to finish refilling the card.
