Online ordering

Use the Restaurant POS app to track and manage online orders. To set up online ordering, first create an order profile to track orders placed online, then set up your integration.

For online orders to sync directly to the POS, you can use Order Anywhere or a supported third-party delivery integration, such as Deliverect or Uber Eats. Without an integrated ordering platform, you will need to manually enter orders received online in the Restaurant POS app.

Configuring online ordering

Online orders must use a designated order profile with Takeaway mode enabled for either delivery or pickup. To offer both delivery and pickup, set up a unique order profile for each method.

  1. Log in to the Back Office with your Lightspeed Restaurant credentials.
  2. Navigate to Configuration > Settings > Order profiles.
  3. Click Add an order profile to create a new order profile, or click Edit to modify an existing one.
  4. Enter a name for the order profile. We recommend using the name of your online ordering platform.
  5. Set Takeaway Mode to either Pickup or Delivery.
  6. (Optional) Adjust additional settings as necessary. For help with these settings, visit Adding order profiles.

  7. Click Save to finish.

Entering online orders manually

If you are using a non-integrated ordering system, orders placed online will need to be manually entered into the POS.

  1. In the Lightspeed Restaurant app, tap Register.
  2. Tap Actions.
  3. Select the order profile intended for either delivery or pickup orders.
  4. (Optional) Link a customer to the order by tapping Assign customer or searching for a customer in the Customers tab. For pick up only, check off the Back Office setting Require adding customer to order to make linking a customer mandatory.
  5. Add items to the order.
  6. Tap Send to issue the order to the kitchen.

Once sent to the kitchen, the order will appear in the Pickup / Delivery section of the Orders screen.

Viewing and managing online orders

View and manage online orders directly from the Lightspeed Restaurant app.

  1. In the Lightspeed Restaurant app, tap Orders.
  2. On the Order management screen, tap Pickup / Delivery.
  3. (Optional) Slide the screen left to right to scroll through the available columns.
  4. (Optional) Use the Mark as button to advance the order to the next phase of production.
  5. (Optional) Use the More actions button to update the order status or pickup time, view details, or pay and close the order.

Payment difference tolerance and Back Office reporting

Payment difference tolerance

Third-party integrations and Lightspeed Restaurant sometimes calculate taxes for tax-exclusive markets in different ways, which can lead to discrepancies in the calculated tax amounts. These discrepancies can cause the system to reject orders.

To solve this issue, Lightspeed Restaurant can compensate you a few cents for a positive or negative difference in the payment total. This amount is reflected in the Back Office reports, but doesn't affect the customer's payment. The amount shown on the Lightspeed receipt is the payment calculated by the POS, not the payment amount posted by the integration.

By default, the payment difference tolerance amount is $0.02. To adjust this amount or turn the feature off, contact Support. The tolerance will apply to all online orders made through the Lightspeed Restaurant POS app.

Back Office reporting

The payment difference tolerance is stored by Lightspeed Restaurant and displayed in the Back Office. Use the Online orders report to view difference tolerances from closed orders.

  1. Log in to the Back Office with your Lightspeed Restaurant credentials.
  2. Navigate to Integration activity > Online orders.
  3. Use the calendar dropdown menu to filter by date or date range.

Enabling and disabling online orders

Pause online orders for integrated ordering systems in the Back Office by navigating to Integrations > Online ordering. Click Manage for the integration, then click Pause orders.
