Using Pay at Table v2 with Lightspeed Payments

Pay at Table v2 is synced with your POS, allowing you to check out your guests by bringing the payment terminal directly to their table. You can retrieve orders, split checks, and process payments without having to walk back to the POS.

Requirements

Before you can use Pay at Table, you must have the following:

Enabling Pay at Table

To begin using Pay at Table, you must first enable it from the Back Office. To do so:

  1. Log in to the Back Office with your Lightspeed credentials.
  2. From the navigation menu, select Financial Services.
  3. Click Terminals.
  4. Click Settings.
    1. To only enable Pay at Table for one payment terminal, select the serial number of that payment terminal.
    2. Toggle on Custom settings.
  5. Toggle on Pay at Table 2.0.

Understanding your Pay at Table settings

  • Staff can see all orders: All checks, including closed checks, will be displayed from the Orders screen.
  • Show newest order first: By default, orders are sorted alphanumerically.
  • Fast flow: By default, an animation will prompt to hand the terminal to the customer. Enabling Fast flow shortens the animation.
  • Calculate tip before taxes: Tip percentage will be based on the subtotal before tax.
  • Show tip on receipt: Display the tip amount on printed and emailed receipts.
  • Auto-lock: Automatically lock the terminal after a period of inactivity. The user’s PIN is required to unlock it.

Enabling scan to pay for pay at table

Enabling QR codes on receipts allows you to scan your customer’s receipt and immediately begin processing payments, without needing to log in or search for the desired receipt. To enable QR codes on your receipts:

  1. Log in to the Back Office with your Lightspeed credentials.
  2. From the navigation menu, select Payment > Receipts.
  3. Check Activate QR codes.
  4. Click Apply settings.

Logging in and out of Pay at Table

To begin using Pay at Table, you must first log in.

  1. Tap Pay at Table on the payment terminal.
  2. Select your username from those listed on the login screen.
  3. If prompted, enter your PIN code or place your QR code in front of your terminal’s camera to scan it.

    Your PIN will be the same one used at the POS. Add or change employee PIN or QR codes by editing POS users in the Back Office.

To log out:

  1. Tap the menu button.
  2. Tap End session.

You can either log out manually via the Settings menu, or you will be automatically logged out if the device is left idle for twenty-five seconds.

Processing payments with Pay at Table

Once you have logged in, you can begin processing payments. The payment flow will follow the same basic steps as processing a payment through your POS.

  1. Tap Pay at Table on the payment terminal.
  2. Select the order from the list of open tables. Select the order from the list of open tables. Optionally, tap the Search icon to search by table name or number, or scan the QR code on your customer’s receipt.

  3. Tap Pay.

  4. Pass the terminal to your customer. Here, your customer can select a tip and complete payment.

  5. Have your customer select if they would like a printed copy of their receipt.

  6. Once the payment has been successfully processed, the terminal will instruct your customer to hand the terminal back to their server.

Splitting payments with Pay at Table

For the most customization, it is recommended that you split checks at the POS. From the POS, you can split checks by seat or by cover. 

From the Pay at Table app, you can split payments equally or by custom amounts. 

  • Splitting checks equally

    To split a payment equally among seats:

    1. Tap Pay at Table on the payment terminal.
    2. Select the order from the list of open tables. Optionally, tap the Search icon to search by table name or number.
    3. Tap Split payment.
    4. Select Equal.
    5. Select the number of checks to split the bill into.

    6. Pass the terminal to the first customer.
    7. The customer can select a tip, then confirm and complete payment.
    8. Once the payment has been successfully processed, the terminal will instruct your customer to hand the terminal back to their server.
    9. Tap Pay next and repeat steps 6-8 for each paying customer until the bill has been paid in full.

  • Splitting checks by a custom amount

    To split checks by a custom amount:

    1. Tap Pay at Table on the payment terminal.
    2. Select the order from the list of open tables. Optionally, tap the Search icon to search by table name or number.
    3. Tap Split payment.
    4. Select Custom.
    5. Type in the payment amount for the first check.

    6. Pass the terminal to the first customer.
    7. The customer can select a tip, then confirm and complete payment.
    8. Once the payment has been successfully processed, the terminal will instruct your customer to hand the terminal back to their server.
    9. (Optional) Tap Pay remaining and repeat steps 6-8 to pay the remainder of the bill.
    10. (Optional) To split the bill again, tap Go back to order and repeat steps 3-8 to pay the remainder of the bill.
