What’s New: August 2026 - Faster payments, orders, and insights

From Back Office enhancements to POS updates and more, here’s what’s been added or improved.

Some features take effect automatically, but others require an update. To access everything new, update the Lightspeed Restaurant app via the App Store outside of business hours on all POS devices.

New

Spotlight of the month: Customize orders with Modifiers

Add Modifiers like toppings, sides, and cooking preferences directly to menu items for a faster, more flexible ordering experience. Set selection rules and independent pricing in the Back Office, while maintaining control over reporting, tax groups, and printing routes. Modifiers are supported across POS, KDS, Order Anywhere, and API.

How to set up

  1. Ensure all devices are running app version 26.16 or higher.
  2. Log in to the Back Office with your Lightspeed Restaurant credentials.
  3. From the navigation menu, select Item list > Create.
  4. Select Modifiers or Modifier Group (or create/add a Modifier directly within an item page).
  5. Set selection rules (min/max), optional extra pricing, SKUs, and accounting/tax groups as needed.

Update

Keep your favourite AI charts in view

Save AI-generated charts directly to your dashboard for quick, ongoing access to the metrics that matter most. Once saved, you can adjust date ranges directly on the chart to explore performance over different periods without having to ask Lightspeed AI to generate the same insights again.

How to set it up

  1. Ask Lightspeed AI to generate a report (e.g., "Show my top 10 items this month").
  2. Click Save to dashboard on the generated graph.
  3. Navigate to the Dashboard tab to view your charts.
  4. Adjust chart dates as needed, or click the 3 dots in the top right of any widget to remove/delete.

Update

Spot service slowdowns faster

Lightspeed Tempo now puts key performance metrics front and center and introduces new insight cards for Emptiest Tables and Longest Service Gaps. Quickly identify tables that need attention and long service gaps to spot bottlenecks, improve table utilization, and keep service pacing on track.

How to set it up

No setup or configuration is required. These updates will automatically be available on the Tempo Back Office dashboard.

A fresh new look for online gift cards

Give guests a faster, simpler way to purchase gift cards with a redesigned, mobile-friendly storefront. The refreshed experience makes it easier to browse, select, and purchase gift cards online, helping you drive more sales year-round.

How to set it up

No action is required. Existing storefront links will automatically update to the new experience during a progressive rollout.

This update currently excludes Germany.

Order Anywhere updates

Update

Tailor tipping to your business

Order Anywhere now gives you more flexibility to customize tipping at checkout with an expanded range of preset percentages. Choose up to six tip options per profile to better reflect local tipping customs while keeping the checkout experience simple and consistent across mobile and desktop.

How to set it up

  1. Navigate to Order Anywhere > Profile > Checkout > Tipping.
  2. Select up to 6 tip options from the available preset percentage list.
  3. Save changes.

Existing tip configurations remain unchanged automatically.

New

Let guests scan and pay their way

Give guests more control over checkout with Scan to Pay. A dynamic QR code printed on the guest check lets diners review their bill, add a tip, and pay securely from their phone using a card or digital wallet. Once payment is complete, the order automatically closes in the POS, helping staff save time and turn tables faster.

How to set it up

  1. Navigate to POS > Configuration > [Config name] > Enable QR code on receipt or to Payment > Receipt > Activate QR codes.

Requires Lightspeed Payments. Once enabled, Scan to Pay is live immediately after POS is refreshed.

Navigate faster with a new POS layout

The redesigned POS navigation gives staff more room to work and a simpler, more consistent experience across iPad and iPhone. Enjoy 15% more space for floor plans and menus, streamlined navigation, and a thumb-friendly iPhone layout that makes one-handed use easier and helps new staff get up to speed faster.

How to set it up

For new locations, the new navigation is enabled by default.

  1. Update your POS app to the latest version (minimum 25.30).
  2. Log into the Back Office and navigate to Business > Beta.
  3. Toggle ON "New Navigation" and wait a few minutes.
  4. Reload/sync the POS device to apply the changes.

All future product innovations and feature releases will be available exclusively through this new navigation interface.

Get your hardware ready for iOS 27

Apple is introducing iOS 27, and Lightspeed is actively preparing to support it. To keep receiving the latest Lightspeed features and updates, make sure your iPhone or iPad is compatible with iOS 27 or iOS 26. If you’re using an older device, now is a good time to plan an upgrade so you can benefit from the latest security, performance, and reliability improvements without disrupting service.

How to migrate your new hardware

  1. Finalize and close all open orders while connected to the internet.
  2. Log into your Back Office and navigate to POS > Devices.
  3. Select the old device and click Disable.
  4. Download Lightspeed Restaurant POS (K) on the new device.
  5. Generate a pairing code in your Back Office by navigating to POS > Connection Codes.
  6. Scan via the new POS app.
