Hi. How can we help?

Managing connection codes

To activate or log in to the Lightspeed Restaurant POS app on your iPhone or iPad, you’ll need to create a connection code in Back Office. A connection code is a unique, secure, and scannable credential used for logging in to Lightspeed Restaurant app for the first time. Your business may need multiple connection codes depending on your POS configuration, users, and the number of devices you're setting up.

You’ll need a connection code to log in to the Lightspeed Restaurant POS app each time it's downloaded on a device. If you ever delete the app from your device, then you'll need to log in again with the connection code.

Creating connection codes

  1. Log in to the Back Office with your Lightspeed credentials.
  2. From the navigation menu, go to Configuration > Devices > Connection codes.

    Back Office connection codes page.

  3. Click Create connection code.
  4. Fill in the connection code settings.

A pop-up showing the connection code settings.

    • Code name: Enter a name for the connection code.
    • Device role: Select the device role from the drop-down menu.
    • POS configuration: Select the POS configuration for which you'd like to create a connection code.
    • Expires in: Configure the connection code's expiration, and choose if the code is one-time use, automatically sets new devices to passive mode, or disables account sharing for new devices.
  5. Click Create code to finish creating the connection code. Connection codes are created as either a numerical token or scannable QR code, which you'll be able to retrieve from the Connection codes page.
  6. Connect your new device by following the instructions found in Preparing your iPad for Lightspeed.

Editing and deleting connection codes

Existing connection codes cannot be edited or altered. If you'd like to change something about a connection code, then we recommend deleting it and creating a new one. To remove a connection code from your system, disable it from the Back Office.

  1. From the navigation menu, go to Configuration > Devices > Connection codes.
  2. Click the trash icon beside the connection code you'd like to delete.
  3. From the pop-up, confirm you'd like to delete the connection code and click Disable code.

Saving and printing connection codes

Once you've created a connection code, you can save and print the image to keep as a physical copy. Printing connection codes is useful if the camera on your iOS device is unable to scan the QR code or if you need to physically move the QR code.

  1. From the navigation menu in Back Office, go to Configuration > Devices > Connection codes.
  2. Click the name of the code you'd like to print.
  3. From the code's page, click Export QR code.
  4. Click Save as PDF file.
  5. Enter a name for the file, and click Save.
  6. Open the connection code's file and print according to your computer and printer settings.
