Production instructions are preparation notes attached to an item. You can add production instructions from the Back Office.
Adding production instructions
Production instructions inform the kitchen about specific instructions related to the items on an order. This additional information for the kitchen is not associated with an extra cost and won't generate statistics.
- Log in to the Back Office with your Lightspeed credentials.
- Navigate to Menu management > Production instructions.
- Click Add production instruction.
- Enter the production instruction settings.
- When you’re done entering the production instructions, click Save.
Production instruction settings
Name: The name of the modifier as displayed in the Back Office.
Type: Defines if the user can choose one (single choice) or several instructions (multiple choices) for each button on the POS.
Use the "#" symbol for the quantity when only one instruction: Check this box to automatically change a number to the # symbol when only one production instruction is attached to an item. This can help give more clarity to the chef by making it easier to differentiate between the details of the order and the quantity on a production ticket.
Choices: Allows more detailed information about the instruction. For example, the name of the instruction is Allergens. Click Add choice to enter more specific information as individual lines, such as Shellfish, Eggs, and Peanuts.
Editing production instructions
Once a production instruction is added to Lightspeed Restaurant, you can always edit it from the Back Office. You can add new choices, or change instruction names. This enables you to adapt and respond to changes in your business day-to-day.
- Log in to the Back Office with your Lightspeed credentials.
- Navigate to Menu management > Production instructions.
