Hi. How can we help?

Modifying combos

Once you’ve created combos in Lightspeed Restaurant, edit them from the Back Office to update settings such as price and name. You also update additional options, such as an open combo, merge sub receipt lines, use the combo auto-detection on the POS, add a bar code, or insert the combo or item group in a course. See descriptions for these additional settings in the table below.

As the structure of a combo is Combo > Item groups > Items, you can edit combo on the combo or the Item group levels.

Refer to the Editing item lists of combos article to learn how to edit a list.

We currently support two versions of the Items page for Lightspeed Restaurant K Series: Items page 2.0 and Legacy Items page.

Lightspeed Restaurant accounts created after March 2023 will have Items page 2.0 enabled by default. Existing accounts will continue to use the Legacy Items page but will be migrated to the newer version at a later date.

To figure out which version of the Items page you're using, refer to the screenshots contained within this article and see if they match what's in your Back Office.

Select your Items page version to filter the setup steps.

  • Accessing the modifying page

    1. Log in to your Back Office with your Lightspeed Restaurant credentials.
    2. From the main navigation menu, select Menu management > Items.

Modifying combos on the combo level

Once a combo is created, you gain additional options to modify it. See Creating combos - Step 1. Adding a combo if you need information about the other options available on the modifying combos page.

Setting name Description
Open combo

Closed combo (default; checkbox disabled):
A closed combo (default) arranges your item groups according to a set order. The order in which you create the item groups in your Back Office is also the order in which the POS user is guided through the combo. For instance, if you first create the item group Sandwiches and then the item group Shakes, the POS user must first select a Sandwich and then the Shake. Refer to Editing item combo lists to change that order.

Open combo (checkbox enabled):
An open combo allows POS users to choose the order of the items. When enabled, the combo is directly added to the order without opening any additional screens. The user can then add all items from the different menus of the combo to the order.

Merge sub receipt lines Merges lines to combine the items included in the combo into a single line on the customer receipt based on tax attributes (VAT). By default, items selected for a combo will print on separate receipt lines unless this setting is enabled.
Can be matched when performing combo auto-detection Combo auto-detection displays a pop-up on the POS when the user selects an item that is also part of a combo. By tapping the pop-up, the user can easily switch from an item sale to a combo sale so the customer can enjoy the combo offer instead of a single item.
For instance, the user selects the item Burger on the POS. The POS will notice that Burger is also part of the combo Lunch menu. A pop-up appears in the upper-right corner of the POS, showing the name of the combo and its price. Tapping the pop-up will open the combo details to complete the order.
If enabled, all items inside the combo will cause the pop-up detection on the POS. You can also enable this function on the item group level.
Bar code The Bar code number will create a scannable code in the Scannable codes panel on the right side of the Back Office. Save or print the file to scan the code with a scanner.
Item to be inserted in course Allows you to set the course (starter, main, etc.) in which the items for this group will be in. This influences the serving order.

Modifying combos on the item group level

Once a combo is created, you gain the option combo auto-detection to modify the item group. See Creating combos - Step 2. Creating an item group for more information about the other options available on the modifying item groups page.

It’s important that you first enable auto-detection on the combo level (see Step 4a of this article).
