Getting started guide
In this article, learn about employees clocking in at the beginning of their shift, and out at the end, enabling you to track their work hours, sales, and other activity. Navigate to other articles in the guide using the carousel below.
Employees clock in and out of the Restaurant POS app daily to start and end their shift. Depending on a user's permissions, they either will need to clock in before they can access the full POS (e.g., a manager or server) or they will only be able to clock in and out (e.g., kitchen staff). All hours worked by employees can be managed from the Back Office.
Clocking in
Clock in to log the beginning of your workday and start your user shift in the Restaurant POS app.
If the sales period is closed, only shift managers will be able to clock in. To start your business day and enable all users to clock in, open a sales period.
- On the Home screen, tap Clock in/out.
- Select your username from those listed under Clock in. Don't see your name? Use the search bar to find it.
- If prompted, enter your PIN code or place your QR code in front of your device's camera to scan it.
Note: Add or change employee PIN or QR codes by editing POS users in the Back Office.
- Tap Yes on the pop-up asking you to start a user shift.
- (Optional) If prompted, count the cash drawer.
- (Optional) Log in from the Home screen to perform additional POS actions, such as taking orders.
- If your user profile has a PIN code, tap your name and then enter the code to log in.
- If your user profile has a QR code, tap Scan QR code and place the code in front of your device's camera to log in.
- If your user profile has no authentication set up, tap your name to log in.
Clocking out
When you're done working, clock out to record an end-of-day clock punch and end your user shift in the Restaurant POS app.
We recommend closing your open orders before you clock out or transferring them to another user. If not, you'll be prompted to do so during the clock-out process.
- On the Home screen, tap Clock in/out.
- Select your username from those listed under Clock out.
- If prompted, enter your PIN code or place your QR code in front of your device's camera to scan it.
Note: Add or change employee PIN or QR codes by editing POS users in the Back Office.
- (Optional) If prompted, transfer your open orders to another user.
Note: To go back and close the orders out instead, tap Cancel on the pop-up.
- Tap Transfer on the pop-up asking you to transfer open orders. This will only appear if you actually have open orders left assigned to you.
- Tap Back in the upper-left corner to return to the Home screen.
- Select a clocked-in user to transfer the orders to.
- If a PIN code or QR code is set up, the selected user inputs their credential to authorize the transfer.
- Repeat steps 1-3 to continue clocking out.
- Tap Yes on the pop-up asking you to end your user shift.
- (Optional) If prompted, count the cash drawer.
- (Optional) If prompted, enter the amount of tips to declare and tap Done, or tap Skip to proceed with the amount as zero.
Note: Employees can self-report, or declare the amount of tips they leave with at the end of their user shift.
- (Optional) Tap Yes to print a user summary report covering your POS activity for the shift.
